Since I'm wrapping up my first trimester it's time to start thinking about all the things we will need for the new member of our family for his/her first year. There are, of course, the obvious things: crib, car seat, bottles, pacifiers, and all the other soft cuddly things that go with having a baby. There are also other things that perhaps we don't actually need: such as an infant tub. Ruggs and I come from the school of thought that less is more. Sometimes those items that are supposed to be helpful are just in the way. I think it's sad (and so innovative) that retail had made a killing selling new mothers things they don't need. For example, I was recently purchasing prenatal vitamins at the store. One brand had a pregnant woman silhouette and was called something clever. It was $12.99. The other brand was a store brand and cost $2.99. I look at both the labels and see that the store brand actually has more in it. Doubting myself, I took it to the pharmacist and asked for their advise. He told me he thought the store brand is, in fact, the better vitamin. I thanked him and put the other one back. I saved myself $10. It's amazing that they can charge $10 extra dollars for something of a lesser quality just because the packaging appeals to their audience. (Good job marketing people!) I'm glad I'm savvy enough to understand it and will hopefully make smart decisions in purchasing (and registering) for the baby.
Week 11: Lime
Your fetus currently enjoys a 1:1 ratio between body and head, and has skin so transparent that blood vessels show right through. But, fingers and toes are no longer webbed, and hair follicles, tooth buds and nail beds are forming -- setting up a significantly more attractive future.
